Finnkjerka-Vetten (TLV3)

Starting Point

The starting point is the Norwegian Public Roads Administration's picnic area on the Torvdalshalsen.

Directions

Drive about 50.6 km (40 min) along the E10 from Svolvær towards Leknes/Å. Or 16.8 km (14 min) from Leknes north along the E10 towards Svolvær. The picnic area is at the turnoff on the south side of Torvdalshalsen.

Tour description

The trail starts on the other side of the E10. Go from the picnic area and up to the top of the hill on the E10, where the trail starts. From here you can see where the trail goes up the mountain side.

The trail is clear all the way. Up on the mountain you reach a path splitting. Here you can go left to Finnkjerka or straight forward to Vetten. At Finnkjerka there is a book you can write your name in.

It's a nice trip to go first to Vetten, then to Finnkjerka and at last down to the path split again. From Finnkjerka you can also go to Tuva which lies a little further north-west or to Bjørnskinntinden, which lies to the northeast. The last one is a little longer trip. From Bjørnskinntinden there is a slightly unclear path down to where the path up to Vetten crosses the first of two streams (see map).

Highlights of the trip

The terrain is completely open all the way. This means that you have a view all the time while walking. From both the Vetten, Tuva and Bjørnskinntinden you have a great view and you look far! Lofoten consists of great mountain peaks and almost flat land between them.

The Sami often used large stones as a sacrifice place. At Finnkjerka there is a large stone (see picture), which has probably been such a sacrifice place, hence the name Finnkjerka (Sami church).

Difficulty and time use

Up to Vetten it is about 3 km. The middle part of the trip is a little steep, but here it is just to rest often and look at the view! You can see the steepest part of the trail from E10. Expect to spend about 2 hours up to Vetten.

The trip Vetten-Tuva-Finngammen-path split is about 1.8 km. The terrain here is easy to walk in.
