The starting point is the Norwegian Public Roads Administration's picnic area on the Torvdalshalsen.
Drive about 50.6 km (40 min) along the E10 from Svolvær towards Leknes/Å. Or 16.8 km (14 min) from Leknes north along the E10 towards Svolvær. The picnic area is at the turnoff on the south side of Torvdalshalsen.
From the upper part of the picnic area there is a small road that ends in a path, which rises to the top of the little mountain on the west side of the picnic area (height 270). The trail runs relatively steeply towards the top.
After about 650 meters the trail divides. The one path runs straight up to height 270. The other (yellow mark) goes along the hill and towards Ytretinden. If you want to go to Ytretinden, it is easiest to follow the path to the left (yellow marking).
If you choose to go to the top of height 270, it is ok to know that the path to Yttertinden goes close to the varden at height 270.
The trail is good all the way. After the first hill the terrain is a bit hilly in the direction of Ytretinden. (see pictures)
When you get up for the first time, you are amazed by the views and the landscape that lies in front of you, especially to the west. From Ytretinden you can see Eggum.
The trip is relatively easy. The first part up to the first top is somewhat steep, but when you get up it's easy to walk. The trip all the way to Ytretinden is about 2.3 km, and takes approx. 1 hour to go one way.
