The Sinahula cave (TVB2)

Text: Bjørn Opdahl

Starting Point

The trip starts at the parking lot located by Regine Normanns vei approx. 5-600 meters after Eidet center.

Directions

If you cross the bridge towards Sortland, turn right at the roundabout and take road 820. Follow road 820 to Rise in Bø municipality (approx. 46.8 km).

Turn right onto Route 915 (Regine Normanns vei). Follow Regine Normann's road to the car park which is located about 5-600 meters after Eidet center.

Tour description

At the parking lot is an information board that, among other things, shows where the path goes. The start of the trail is at the end of the parking lot and is marked with a sign. Up on the hill there is a new information board. The path continues past the information board and up to where the descent to the cave is. There is a somewhat steep staircase down into the cave. (see pictures) Down in the cave you go to the right around some rocks, and up into a new cave. Feel free to bring a flash-/headlight.

Highlights of the trip

By reading the information board down by the car park, you get a quick introduction to the history of Regine Normann and the Sinahulen cave.

Inside the innermost cave (Reading Room) there is a plastic box with some of Regine Normann's books. There are also some planks there that you can sit on. Feel free to bring some tealights to create a little atmosphere in the cave. (NB! Remember to clean up before you leave the cave) The highlight is then to sit down and have a read while in the place where the original manuscripts were once hidden away by Serine Regine Normann.

Difficulty and time use

The path up to the cave is clear and relatively easy to walk. There is some stone in the path, especially the last part just before the cave. It takes about 15 minutes to walk from the parking lot and up to the cave.
