The prison camp at Trondenes (SSH9)

Text: Bjørn Opdahl

Location

Just behind Trondenes church.

Directions

Follow road 83 north out of Harstad center. Turn right at the roundabout on Sama and follow the signs to Trondenes church.

You can either park by Trondenes church or up by the crematorium.

Description of the attraction

The camp area is today a grassy area where the foundation and concrete floor after the prison barracks and the watchtowers are clear in the terrain.

A gravel road has been laid out through the camp site. At the entrance to the area, from both the church and the crematorium, there are information boards with text and pictures.

Difficulty and time use

The camp area is very easily accessible just behind Trondenes church and the crematorium.
